Organised by the Instituto Cervantes, the concert was held 17th April at the prestigious Arnold Schönberg Centre.

The Youth Chamber Orchestra of the Prince of Asturias Foundation´s International Music School performed at the finale concert of the 2nd annual Spanien Modern Festival, which was organised by the Instituto Cervantes in Vienna.

The concert took place on Thursday, 17th April, at Vienna´s Arnold Schönberg Centre, one of the most prestigious contemporary music concert halls in the world.

The Orchestra performed a programme that includes the works Phantasy for Violin and Piano, op. 47 and Kammersymphonie, op. 9 by Arnold Schönberg; Annotationes by Catalan composer José Luis de Delás and Unordentliche inseln de la motte fouqué-vertonung für Ensemble by Christian Ofenbauer. The orchestra was conducted by maestro Arturo Tamayo.

In 2007 the Instituto Cervantes in Vienna launched a festival to bring notice to the work of both established composers as well as the latest trends in contemporary Spanish music. Christened Spanien Modern, this festival follows in the footsteps of the Wien Modern, the prestigious annual event devoted to contemporary music that is held in the Austrian capital each autumn, and which is considered to be the greatest event of its kind in Europe. From this standpoint, the Instituto Cervantes endeavours to make the Spanien Modern a platform for Spanish musical creation and for introducing it to the Viennese scene, regarded as the musical capital of the world.

In addition to the Youth Orchestra, this second edition included performances by the German Opera´s Ensemble Modern and Ensemble Barcelona 216, which officially opened the festival with a performance at Vienna´s Musikverien Gläserner Saal.

The Youth Chamber Orchestra of the Prince of Asturias Foundation´s International Music School

The Youth Chamber Orchestra of the Prince of Asturias Foundation´s International Music School was established in the heart of our School´s Summer Courses, triggered by the interests of its members and the growing demand for classical music in our community.

In 2005 the Prince of Asturias Foundation took on entirely the permanent management and coordination of the International Music School and its Youth Chamber Orchestra.

Consisting of young students and professors, the orchestra, which performs a chamber repertoire in line with its members, works throughout the days that the Summer Courses are held. It also takes part of the various activities that the School holds throughout the year.

Amongst its latest appearances, it is worth mentioning its performances at the 15th annual Music Week of Asturias and the Prince of Asturias Foundation´s board of trustees´ annual meeting, presided over by H.R.H. Prince Felipe at the El Pardo Royal Palace.
